I live in Athens, Georgia and I'm a doctoral candidate who is writing my dissertation in History at the University of Georgia. I teach both Latin American and United States History to undergraduates at the University's Office of International Education. While attending Armstrong Atlantic State University to complete my master's degree program, I had the opportunity to tutor students at all college levels in English, Spanish, History, and Writing. I have a bachelor's degree in History from Armstrong Atlantic State, with a minor in Spanish. I've spent considerable time outside of the United States and have traveled throughout Latin America. I've lived in Brazil and Mexico, and travel remains one of my major interests. As a bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking tutor, I am comfortable conversing with students in both languages. I also appreciate cultural differences that exist between different groups of learners; however, I know from my travels that they only enrich the learning experience and are not a barrier to someone's ability to grasp academic material. It's very important to me to maintain a common ground with my students. From there, I can get them to listen, and the learning will start to flow from that point. I need to be able to capture their interest and hold it in order to explain the material to them.
